Switching between Google Earth, Sky, and Mars can be done from the menu bar or from the planet icon on the toolbar. Exploring the Martian surface is limited to data provided from NASA, but that's not much of a limitation considering that it's unlikely that most of us will ever get to visit the Red Planet. The oceanic maps provide the capability to plunge to the floor of the sea, view exclusive content from the BBC and National Geographic, and explore shipwrecks like the Titanic in 3D. In addition to Earth cartography, you can also check out Google Ocean, historical Earth maps, and the surface of one of our closest neighbors, Mars. Accessible enough for casual users, Google has added features that make it a necessity for those whose topographic desires are more serious. I also have two MacBook Pro 13" mid-2012 also running Catalina (officially supported), where Google Maps works perfectly fine on both Firefox and Safari, so it doesn't seem to be due to lacking browser support.Google Earth continues to set the mapping paradigm. Apple's own Maps app also runs without any trouble at all. However, in Opera Google Maps works perfectly fine! The computer does heat up and the fans start spinning, but at least Google Maps is fully functional and runs smoothly. In Google Maps, the map view renders correctly, but I'm unable to click any points of interest, and if I move around the map it lags heavily and soon turns black basically unusable. The dedicated GPU is inactivated with the non-permanent solution circulating elsewhere.Įver since I upgraded (perhaps already in Mojave, but not sure about that) I'm unable to use Google Maps and most other map services in Firefox and Safari. I have a MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 running macOS Catalina with dosdude1's Catalina patcher.
